It’s simple. We rally together. When more of us take a firm stance in defending all that we value, we win. When we refuse to conform to harmful cultural norms as a community, we win.
The anti-dote is all around us! It’s in you. It’s in me. Together, we can collectively reverse the trends that are distracting us to death.
Perfect for people who
Just the thing if you
This would be best if you
Some people have it all figured out. They’re already living IRL and striking that ideal balance. But even the best parents and the most disciplined individual will find something at Tame Your Tech they can’t get on their own. There are three perks that can only be found in our unique group setting.
To the degree that we stretch beyond our limits, to that same degree our confidence grows. We start believeing, “I can do that!”
The opposite of addiction is connection. There’s no substitute for genuine, healthy human connection. We need each other.
Where our focus goes, our energy flows. As we align our focus with our values and what we most care about, we’re more at peace.
Our rallies will rock your world. Currently only being held in West Jordan, Utah, these are power-packed community events with flare.
We start out with a check-in for all smartphone users. They’re invited to fill out a sheet that asks them to mindfully consider their screen use and all they’ve accomplished over the past month. Volunteers within the group will later review and respond to their answers and mail them back full of personal feedback and support.
Every person counts at these events, so we’ll take roll and welcome newcomers. Each family or individual gets to create their own Battle Banner they’ll display during roll call, showing those priorities that matter most to them. We then play a couple of fun group games to get to know each other better and lighten up.
We’ll get to recognize and award those who are pushing themselves to live less distracted by doing more in real life.
Our Spare Parts playground will be set up for kids to enjoy made up of crates, barrels, tires, tarps, pallets, ramps and wooden blocks. One of our staff will lead teens in a Tech Talk for a brief discussion on what they’re noticing, what they’re learning, what concerns they have and how they’re coping. Then they’re free to play games, draw, or play any of the field activities we have set up.
Meanwhile, parents engage in a pow-wow. We talk about what’s working and what’s hard when it comes to striking a healthy tech-life balance.
To support our mission to make face-to-face time a priority, members will have the chance to purchase “Screen Less, Do More” window stickers, t-shirts or “Give it a Rest” wooden boxes for phones to take a break.
We end with a wrap-up message that helps us commit to living in healthy balance with tech while preserving all it means to be so wonderfully, messily human.
Our resilience clubs are life changing. No joke. The value of these tight-knit groups can’t be overstated.
Each club focuses on getting out of default mode so you can live according to your own design. You’ll learn to be more intentional with your time as you practice aligning your screen use with your clearly defined purpose.
These clubs are for anyone looking to step it up a notch. They’re for those who are striking an ideal balance with tech as much as they’re for people glued to devices day and night. The point is to take you from where you’re at to the next level. This is most likely to happen with positive peer support in place. You’ll identify projects and skills you want to take on and decide for yourself just how far you’d like to be stretched. The group is there to cheer you on while holding you to your vision.
We have three resilience clubs to choose from. They’re currently only being held in West Jordan, Utah.
TNT (Try New Things) is for kids ages 7-12. When we meet up we start by beating on a huge rawhide drum and shouting out our team cheer. Members perform fun skits called “Time Snatchers” about the choices we make about how we spend our time and why that matters.
With hands-on crafts and projects, kids get to make cool stuff that requires focus, patience, and a sharp mind to complete. We follow up on previously chosen challenges that build practical skills, grit and deep focus. Kids can earn dog tags for pushing themselves in different areas and will be recognized for significant effort. These are character-based clubs with a strong emphasis on virtues such as courage, kindness and determination. Click this link to sign up.
Renegade is for teens ages 13-19. Yes, there’s a huge maturity gap between ages 13 and 19. But we have staff on hand to make sure every participant is challenged appropriately. The focus of Renegade is on rebelling against low expectations so teens can decide for themselves how far they want to push themselves.
Unlike our kid and adult clubs, this club depends on teamwork to achieve far more than any one person could alone. Members are invited to draft up proposals that must be approved by one of our staff before presenting their idea to the group. Once approved, the teen will describe their project and ask for volunteers to fill certain roles in order to make it happen. Everyone is expected to participate on a project in either a helper or leadership role.
Sessions focus on teamwork, holding our attention, meaningful discussion, building empathy, and regularly assessing screen use. Click this link to sign up.
